Ancient Greek aphorism – ‘Know Thyself’…
“Knowing yourself is true wisdom; Mastering yourself is true power.” Lao Tzu (Chinese Taoist philosopher)
“There are three Things extremely hard: Steel, a Diamond, and to Know one’s self.” Benjamin Franklin
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates
The first step of this process is to delve deeply and get to know yourself better… Who are you really? What things are important in life and any potential career?
Activity 1: 100 Things
Write down in your note pad 100 things that you Love and Like. Take a few days if needed but try to be specific. Include hobbies and interests.
Activity 2: Personality test
Although plenty of personality test sites exist, www.16personalities.com works well for our aims. Obviously, personality tests don’t always get it all right, but the aim is to get you thinking and some results will resonate well with you. Some may surprise you. Make a note of these – especially from the career section.
Be aware of your frame of mind when taking a test as this can affect your result – try to be positive and mindful of the long-term aim.
