It is important to have a good understanding of your own Personal and Professional Skills – these will highlight your strengths as well as areas that can be worked upon. These may also highlight potential careers in which you could be well suited, and assist with the application and interview processes, further along the line.
Activity 4 & 5: Skills
Give yourself a rating of 1 (low) to 5 (high) for each of the following skills. Write a sentence to qualify these scores. Be as honest as possible.
Personal Skills:
– Learning: Shows interest in learning and development, and looks for feedback to improve understanding.
– Adaptability: Adapts easily to challenges. Is open to change and affective with it.
– Goal Setting: Ability to make a decision and determine when it is to be achieved. Stays committed to the goal.
– Initiative: Shows inclination to find opportunities, to make decisions and to influence events.
– Independence: Able to perform tasks with minimal help, approval or supervision.
– Motivation: Shows drive to succeed or excel at tasks. Confident in abilities and expects to succeed.
– Dependability: Reliable, responsible and dependable in fulfilling duties. Checks work for completeness and accuracy.
– Professionalism: Remains calm and controlled in stressful situations. Works to deliver the best interests for all involved at all times, and maintains appropriate dress code.
Professional Skills:
– Digital Literacy: Ability to effectively use digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs for purposes of communication, expression, collaboration and advocacy.
– Communication: An ability to use strategies, learning theory, and technologies to more effectively communicate with colleagues, customers and others.
– Teamwork: An ability to collaborate with others to work towards a common goal or to complete a task in the most effective and efficient way.
– Self-management: to demonstrate your capability to continually learn, respond to changes and enhance work practices.
– Problem Solving: An ability to use generic or ad hoc methods in an orderly or creative manner to find solutions to problems.
– Critical Thinking: An ability to objectively analyse facts and information to form a judgment.
– Innovation: the ability to generate and introduce new ideas.
– Emotional Judgement: An ability to use emotional intelligence to make rational and effective decisions, as well as influence and inspire others.
